OGSB has started a Non-profit Maternity Hospital in Mirpur, Dhaka in 1995 in a rented house. This Maternity Hospital has been serving women and children with an affordable charge. With the low-cost service charges affordable to common people the maternity hospital drew attraction of common people and becoming popular in Mirpur-1. It was a wonderful experience of members of the society that stimulated to plan and establishes a big hospital for common people with low cost and affordable services. With this view OGSB approach the Government of Peoples of Republic of Bangladesh for a piece of land in Mirpur (1996) area. And then Government kindly allotted 1 acre land for construction of Hospital and Institute. Accordingly OGSB has planned 300 bedded Hospital and Institution for Reproductive & Child Health and approach Ministry of Social Welfare for financial support.

OGSB Hospital and IRCH shall be a centre of excellence in the services, academic and research activities including human resource development. This hospital and Institute shall be unique in addressing several of issues of women and children life cycle.  In many other places women life cycle have been address in fragmentation but here a comprehensive approach shall be taken to address women life cycle from newborn, under-five, young childhood, adolescent, reproductive age, menopause and old ages. This centre shall also develop human resources to address all issues of women life cycle along with relevant researches and programs. 

 

OGSB had approach to Ministry of Social Welfare for financial support for Hospital and Institute. The Ministry kindly approved the project of OGSB Hospital and Institute of Reproductive and Child Health (IRCH).  In the first phase 150 bedded hospitals will be constructed under this project and later on and 2nd phase (300 bedded hospitals) will be started. In July 2007 construction of building started and it completed by 2009. The construction is being finance and guided by Directorate of Social Welfare.

 

It was started on 2010 in Indoor and Outdoor department including training and research centre (new building).  The members of OGSB have all the expertise to support this hospital to function as a centre of excellence in services, academy, researches and programs.  The members of OGSB have already proved their high level of expertise and have been recognize by Government, NGOs and Development Partners.
